Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers…because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
— Steve Jobs
DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, January 18, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ -- When asked by Time Magazine about his choice for the Person of the Century in 1999, Steve Jobs replied, “Gandhi is my choice for the Person of the Century because he showed us the way out of the destructive side of our human nature. Gandhi demonstrated that we can force change and justice through moral acts of aggression instead of physical acts of aggression. Never has our species needed this wisdom more.”(1, 2, 7)

Steve’s earliest tryst with Gandhi was probably during his trip in 1974-75 to India (2, 6). Upon his return, Steve stated:
"There is no one that embodies better what I want to become, other than Gandhi. He changed the world.”(2)

Gandhi probably changed Steve Jobs. Within a year, he had founded Apple (12), and destiny conspired with him to ‘Change the world’.
But it was after being fired by Apple that Jobs purchased a pair of circular, wire rim glasses to match the picture of Gandhi he'd had since his early 20s. Steve always kept a picture of Gandhi with him and history will remember him much like his hero (2). Men who thought differently.

During his second innings at Apple in the year 1997, Steve stood before a giant portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and said these words before a packed audience: “Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers…because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” (3)
Jobs left the world as ironically as his inspiration Gandhi’s violent assassination by a semi automatic Beretta fired at point blank range (11). The man who challenged technology and spearheaded one of the biggest technological revolution of our times died because technology did not have an answer to cancer. (13, 14)
Gandhi uttered the words ‘Hai Ram’ (Oh God) three times before he lost consciousness (11). One wonders if the last monologue of Steve Jobs ‘Oh Wow’ (10) repeated three times was his ultimate tribute to the man who inspired him all his life. Perhaps we shall never know, but the coincidence is unpalatable.

The Gandhi Murder’, starring Stephen Lang, Luke Pasqualino, Om Puri and Vinnie Jones, covers in depth the tumultuous last days in the life of Mahatma Gandhi that eventually led to his assassination on 30th January, 1948. The movie releases worldwide on 30th January, 2019.
