FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - A special gift came to 12-year-old Jacob Haug at Hector International Airport on Saturday afternoon, April 5.

Jacob and his family are going to Disney World for being chosen as 2025 North Dakota Children’s Miracle Network Champion, an award given to a kid who pushes through life’s toughest challenges.

“We feel very grateful and very honored to be able to attend this event and represent Sanford,” said Karla Haug, Jacob’s mother.

Jacob suffered a cerebral artery stroke just after he was born.

His mother remembers it like it was yesterday.

“We discovered that stroke because he was having epileptic seizures and so that was really devastating to us because there was no reason for us to know why he was having the stroke or what caused the stroke,” said Karla Haug.

When Karla’s sons found out they were going to Disney World, it caught their kids by surprise.

Through the ups and downs, Jacob has still managed to put a smile on his face.

“Jacob does continue to have epilepsy but as you can see, he’s a great kid who’s super resilient, who loves life and makes the best of everything,” said Karla Haug.

Jacob is enjoying everything about life, especially when West Fargo Police escorted him and his family to the airport.

“Jacob has always loved police officers and police cars,” said Karla Haug.

Given that Jacob wants to be a police officer when he grows up, the West Fargo Police Department wanted to make him feel special by escorting him.
