Pletcher-trained Fierceness the early Kentucky Derby 150 favorite
Fierceness is the early favorite for the 150th Kentucky Derby next month.
While the favorite now, horse racing fans are probably cautiously optimistic about his chances.
Fierceness is owned by Todd Pletcher, who's had the favorite two other times, but both horses scratched before the race.
Uncle Mo scratched in 2011, and then Forte last year.
Right now, betting sites have Fierceness as an early 3-1 favorite.
"He's super laid back. Very efficient. Took everything in stride this morning. First day out there," Pletcher said. "And, you know, I've seen him kind of grow through the course of the winter in the spring, and he's become a leading sort that I think still filling into his frame. And it's kind of scary to think that there might be some improvement there still."
Second and third behind Fierceness in the early odds are Sierra Leone at 7-2 and Catching Freedom at 8-1.
In the fourth spot is Forever Young, who's looking to make history as the first Japanese-trained horse to win the Kentucky Derby.
